I think it’s human nature to long for wealth and desire luxury items and experiences.
The problem is that most of us don’t start out wealthy. It’s something that has to be built (typically) over many, many years.
So while we’re saving, investing, or just trying to get out of debt, we still want to have some luxury things to enjoy!
Well, I’m about to show you how you can have those luxury items and experiences, all while staying within your budget.
But before we get into the tips for living that luxury life, there are a few things to do.
Take an inventory of the luxury items in your home
When was the last time you used your fancy dishes, went through your beauty products, or wore the finest jewelry you own?
I encourage you seek out the finest things around your home that make you feel luxurious and special.
Allow yourself to enjoy all of the things you have
Now that you know what luxury items you have, it’s time to use them! Make a point to wear your beautiful clothing and jewelry. Use your fine dishes on a week night.
It’s ok to want to add more quality things to your life, but first enjoy what beautiful things you already have!
Don't compare yourself to others
There is nothing that will steal your joy faster than comparing yourself to others.
We all have different goals and are in different stages in our financial journey. And that’s OK.
Staying true to your financial goals and to YOURSELF will bring you more joy than wasting money to impress others.
Now, grab your luxurious beverage of choice and lets jump right in to these 10 clever tips!
1. Make a list of designer clothing brands and go to thrift stores to find them
If you enjoy wearing name brand clothing, then this hack is for you!
Grab a pen and paper to make a list of the top 20 designer brands and styles you like. Some websites I go to for designer brands inspiration are: Nordstrom.com, Bloomingdales.com, and neimanmarcus.com.
Then, take that list to the thrift store and see if you can find any of those brands!
If you have trouble finding specific name brands at your local thrift store, just search for clothing pieces that look similar to the expensive brands. You can add your favorite accessories and make it your own unique style!
2. Utilize beauty school services near you
Beauty schools are THE place to get manicures, pedicures, and hair cuts for a fraction of salon prices. Plus, you’re helping students perfect their skills.
If there are not any beauty schools nearby, you can choose classy hairstyles and get them done at Great Clips (or whatever discount hair salon is available).
3. Shop garage sales, estate sales, and thrift stores in wealthy areas
You can have luxury items for the fraction of the price if you shop secondhand!
My favorite hack for finding luxury items is shopping the thrift stores in wealthier areas near you. Where there’s wealth, there’s likely more quality things for you to get a deal on!
4. Shop Facebook Marketplace
Facebook Marketplace is one of my go-to places to get luxury items for super cheap or even free!
Be on the lookout for “Curb Alerts.” This is when free items are placed at curbs to be picked up – first come, first serve. I have gotten a bookcase on Facebook marketplace for completely free by being the quickest to pick it up!
5. Join your local Buy Nothing Facebook group
Did you know that there are Facebook groups where people give away items for completely free – no strings attached?
It’s called the Buy Nothing Project. Each local Buy Nothing Facebook group gives members a way to give and receive, share, lend, and express gratitude.
In these groups, you can post anything you’d like to give away, lend, or share in your Buy Nothing community.
And you can ask for anything you’d like to receive for free or borrow.
6. Frame free art for your home and interiors
There are so many ways to fill your home with beautiful art on the cheap! You can create art for a few dollars or less with these tricks.
Start by purchasing an inexpensive frame at Dollar Tree, a thrift store, or anywhere you can get one for under few bucks.
Then, frame any of these free/affordable items:
- Open access art
- Pressed flowers
- Magazine or book pages
- Wallpaper samples
- Scarves and handkerchiefs
- Old calendar pictures
- Pretty wrapping paper
- Greeting card cover
7. Make your home smell elegant
Have you ever walked into someone’s home when they were burning a seasonal candle?
I bet the scent was the first thing you noticed when walking in the door.
Scents really set the stage for how a place will feel. And you can help your home feel luxurious by making it smell good.

8. Enjoy your favorite beverages in fancy mugs/glasses
Life is too short to drink from a boring glass!
Drink your morning juice from a fancy champagne flute. Have your tea in a gorgeous, vintage-style teacup.
Let your beverage container bring you joy, elegance, and inspire you!
And you can get beautiful glassware, mugs, and teacups for super cheap at thrift stores any day of the week.
9. Make luxurious meals at home
This one is my favorite because all you really need is 2 things to have a restaurant-worthy meal at home.
1. A copy-cat restaurant recipe. (Or just a recipe of your favorite dish.)
2. Beautiful plating – like in the picture above.
It also helps to use your fancier dishes or china. But if you don’t have those, then arranging your meals elegantly on any plates will make your meal feel extra luxurious.
10. Discover what luxury living means for you
At the end of the day, luxury living on a budget is about creating quality experiences for yourself and loved ones, but still working towards your financial goals.
The tips above are a great starting point for building a more luxurious life for less.
It’s up to you to keep learning what you value spending your money on, what items or experiences make you feel special, and how you can get those things on a budget.
